{"id":553,"date":"2016-10-06T18:24:35","date_gmt":"2016-10-06T18:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.karen-gustafson.com\/?p=553"},"modified":"2016-10-06T18:24:35","modified_gmt":"2016-10-06T18:24:35","slug":"channeling-my-inner-three-year-old","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.karen-gustafson.com\/?p=553","title":{"rendered":"Channeling My Inner Three Year Old"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past Sunday in church we sang a familiar song.\u00a0 It&#8217;s one I&#8217;ve sung many times before at\u00a0my previous church.\u00a0\u00a0You know the kind,\u00a0one that&#8217;s so\u00a0familiar you go into auto pilot mode, singing the words without really thinking about them.\u00a0\u00a0Which is\u00a0exactly what I did.\u00a0 I was busy thinking about some other things going on in life so the words were just flowing from my mouth until we got to the part of the song that says:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;It will be my joy to say<br \/>\nYour will, your way<br \/>\nIt will be my joy to say<br \/>\nYour will, your way<br \/>\nIt will be my joy to say<br \/>\nYour will, your way, always&#8221;<br \/>\n<em>(Lay Me Down by Chris Tomlin)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The word that knocked me out of auto pilot was<em><strong> joy<\/strong><\/em>&#8230; it will be my <em>joy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>But is it?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There are many times when I&#8217;ve said&#8230;Your will, Your way God.\u00a0 I&#8217;d like to say that\u00a0I\u00a0always did it with a feeling of sweet surrender and willing submission, but that would be a lie.\u00a0 Many times I&#8217;ve said\u00a0it like a frustrated child not getting her way,\u00a0with a heavy sigh just to show my annoyance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I know that God&#8217;s ways are different and that His will\u00a0is good.\u00a0 But they are not always easy or enjoyable.\u00a0 Sometimes His ways are hard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He tells me to forgive the person who hurt me deeply while saying it&#8217;s my fault for the pain because I&#8217;m just too sensitive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He tells me to love the person who lives differently from me, without heaping judgement on them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He tells me to trust him when everything around me says things are going to hell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He tells me to persevere in the midst of difficult times when I want to crawl back into bed and forget the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a7\u00a7\u00a7\u00a7\u00a7<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Now, here comes the part where I&#8217;m supposed to write out some wonderful verses or some great quotes that make it all so much easier.\u00a0 Words that bring meaning and clarity to difficult situations.\u00a0\u00a0Words that encourage and give hope.\u00a0 Words that invoke joy while doing the hard things.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>I don&#8217;t have them to give.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">My journey, my season\u00a0right now is learning to live\u00a0my life following Jesus without having all the\u00a0answers <em>and not pretending that I do.<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0He&#8217;s teaching me to love him and to love others in the midst of all my questions and uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It&#8217;s uncomfortable.\u00a0 It&#8217;s unnerving.\u00a0 It&#8217;s challenging.\u00a0 So right now I&#8217;m much like that three year old sitting on the floor, arms crossed\u00a0with a scrunched up face saying, Your will, Your way&#8230;&#8230;can you hear the sigh?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This past Sunday in church we sang a familiar song.\u00a0 It&#8217;s one I&#8217;ve sung many times before at\u00a0my previous church.\u00a0\u00a0You know the kind,\u00a0one that&#8217;s so\u00a0familiar you go into auto pilot mode, singing the words without really thinking about them.\u00a0\u00a0Which is\u00a0exactly &hellip;
